Sustainable Salons is a for-purpose enterprise dedicated to getting people, planet, and profit working for each other.
What started as a resource recovery program in 2015, has now grown into an organisation that inspires leaders to align their actions with their values. They empower conscious businesses and their consumers to make a real and measurable impact, helping divert up to 95% of resources from landfill and transforming them into a positive force for good.
Our partnership with Sustainable Salons began in 2017. Paul Frasca and Ewelina Soroko, co-founders of Sustainable Salons approached Mambourin to be a part of their mission, and we’ve been helping them “Make Sustainability Reality” ever since.

Mambourin’s Business Solutions (MBS) provides Sustainable Salons with a variety of services. The partnership initially began with our team sorting hair and plastics and has grown to team members granulating hair to be utilised in hairy soil and processing hair collected for hair booms. The Mambourin team is an essential driving force behind sorting and processing resources collected from Sustainable Salons members, ensuring all materials are correctly handled. This purposeful work ensures nine individuals are employed each day, spreading across both our Derrimut and Melton warehouses.

For the MBS team, working with Sustainable Salons sees them doing tasks like weighing resources received before sorting them into the correct streams, as well as correctly storing the materials before they are processed. MBS team member Andrew says he enjoys the work Sustainable Salons provides, taking us through the process of how he separates different materials such as aerosol cans from the resources collected and compacting the foil for easy handling. Through this work, Mambourin, together with the Sustainable Salons network has helped keep 1.7M+ kilograms of resources in circulation and away from landfill.
